Nanyuki / Lewa Downs / Loisaba

Nanyuki was founded by white settlers in 1907 a small but very lively town. Positioned on the slopes of Mount Kenya Nanyuki is famous for the Mount Kenya Safari Club the "club" of the rich and famous now under management of the Fairmont Group.

Lewa Downs is a privately owned ranch of 16000 hectares that has been turned into a 'wildlife conservancy'. Today the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is homeground to conservation efforts of wildlife of the Northern frontier. From Black and White Rhino breeding to translocations rescue and treatment of injured wildlife. Ranching activities are still maintained and the ranch is now divided equally between cattle ranching and tourism with profits going to the local Samburu community. Accommodation is exclusive and must be booked in advance. 

The Lewa Marathon takes place every June in this expansive reserve. Special flight offers are available during this time with Airkenya to Lewa Downs.

Loisaba is located in Northern Laikipia on a 56‚000 acre which is both a wildlife conservancy and working ranch. The two permanent rivers and abundant permanent springs make Loisaba attractive to wildlife throughout the year. It is a haven for more than 260 species of birds‚ large herds of elephant’s and buffalos‚ dozens of the endangered Grevys Zebra‚ reticulated giraffe and the beautiful Greater Kudu.

Airkenya flies twice daily to Nanyuki‚ Lewa Downs and Loisaba and from either of these three destinations one can be transferred by road to Laikipia. 

CONNECTING FLIGHTS

Clients flying from Nanyuki‚ Lewa Downs and Loisaba can connect to Mara via Nanyuki or via Wilson Airport in the low season on the 1400hrs Maasai Mara departure‚  or to Kilimanjaro‚ Tanzania.
